Rîku Hàdû Higu̹

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ (/ˈatne̜/ /ˈhədʊ/ [volatile] [puzzle]) is a subtropical Large City located in Mædame Hûbâ Kingdom, Mefankhria County, within the Warrenese Shogunate.

The name Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ is derived from the Wood Elvish language, as Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ was founded by Loraine, who was culturaly Warrenese.

Climate

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 19°C (66°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 17°C (62°F). Overview

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ was founded durring the late 13th century in winter of the year 1197, by Loraine. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ was built using the conventions of Warrenese durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ is buildings are arranged within a network of broad paverstone streets which form a rectangular grid, where each block verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller block has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The city rests behind a thin stone wall. The wall's design was likly directly copied from a castle's parmiter defences. It's simply that the arcatect made Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s wall substancialy thinner than a castle's walls. While the towers and gatehouses are adiquite, the obvious cost savings measure of making the walls drasticaly thinner reduces their ability to resist siege weapons greatly. The city's impressive-looking wall could fail at a critical moment in battle, and would likely not even resist a few bandits with improvised siege equipment. Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s budget oriented are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the city as needed.

Before you’ve even set foot into the heart of Rîku Hàdû Higu̹, you can smell it. The incense. It hangs about the town like a cloud. Monks, priests, and clerics are everywhere, all dedicated to the same god, all performing the same rituals to bless and anoint buildings, streets, people, animals, you name it they are or have blessed it. The same holy symbol is everywhere too. Its on buildings, on people, and even branded into livestock. This certainly loves its god. More than it loves wealth. The city is very clearly poor. Buildings are run down in ways that are not imeadiatly obvious. The people are a bit too thin. The market is very eager to sell to newcomers, but not so eager to buy from them. There’s also a general lack of the hum and buzz of healthy industry in Rîku Hàdû Higu̹.

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s natural decorations nor waterways.

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Cultural Notes

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used which employed abundant symbolic geometry, using pure forms such as the circle and square, and plans are based on often symmetrical layouts featuring rectangular courtyards and halls. These structures were is decorated with carved stone or stucco reliefs and made use of colorful stone mosaics..

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is long in Rîku Hàdû Higu̹.

The Udaeus near Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves sacrificing an animal to channel Wild Magic energies of tier 1 via mimery.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Rîku Hàdû Higu̹. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Rîku Hàdû Higu̹ lost 267 people, 382 livestock, and 29 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 89, when members of Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s militia enacted an operation to extract assets from a vault under siege by the enemy. The operation was complicated by the army being put into a position where they could only choose between two terrible options. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the vault, which ended in victory for Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s forces. The war is remembered in legend by Rîku Hàdû Higu̹'s bards, historians, and legend keepers.
